As for people getting robbed on 34th, it was probly their own fault. talking on cell phones with thier heads up thier ass drunk at 2am. i live in north philly and as long as you act smart and dont' do anything stupid like walk around at 2am with your cell phone out, you should be fine. my gf lives in west philly around 35th and arch and its not to bad around there.
Neighborhoods just change REALLY drastically out here. Its amazing how quickly 40th street from north to south changes from dilapidated houses to IVY LEAGUE CAMPUS in like 4 blocks.
