Of course, I can't say that it was the case with every manufacturer, but some rear brake calipers were intentionally less powerful than the front.

My experience is that, in most of these cases, the radial clearance at the brake bridge far exceeds that which would be required for the maximum tyre size that could be accommodated based of the lateral clearance between the chain stays. Similarly, in most cases, the radial clearance to the brake bridge far exceeds that necessary to remove a wheel.
