I tend to think it is a red herring much like crank length.
Sure some people will have a preference and some more defined requirements due to injuries etc but outside of that........?
Q is pretty much the same on all the bikes here for the last 40 years. Recently coach went wider and so did my kid. They both prefer wider. I have way more opinions on crank length. No idea about Q. I'm not about to say narrow is better. There are extremes to each - not talking about those.
