Ordering a pint of beer makes sense, for example. While a half-liter (or again, properly, 500ml) is close to the same volume, it's clearly a unit not designed for that purpose. And the arguments made about conversion fall flat when most of us don't care the weight of that beer, nor how much energy is required to heat it up.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'll buy the metric hype when the metric freaks also want us to switch to metric time. Until then, no dice.
And I still don't trust that it's not a long-term French play to finish what they started in 1066.
To add to this, the "English system" we use was developed over centuries as the need arose for a unit of measurement such as 12 inches = a foot or whatever. Why would I use 30 cm to be a metric foot? When something is 12 inches we say foot.
If I say anything more about this, my quality of post ratio will drop to an unacceptable level.
