Regarding frame design -

One thing I have read concerning the Brit "freak bikes" is that the designs were done to get around amateur racing regulations which prevented the name of the bicycle being shown. Hence we got things such as the Bates fork blade, Baines Flying Gate, Thanet cradled bottom bracket, Hetchins vibrant stays, etc. Do not know if the suggestion holds merit.
