Broken Deore XT ST-M095 Shifter

Today I decided to investigate why I was not able to shift into the granny gear on my '92 Trek 950 (Deore XT ST-M095) and found that plastic that holds the cable is broken. I don't think that this could be repaired, so I found the following replacements:

Deore LX
or
Deore XT

The Deore LX looks the most like what I have and I think will bolt right up to the brake. However, I am wondering if I could replace the plastic that broke on my XT with the plastic that is in one of these. That way I can continue to have matching shifters. Has anyone tried something similar?

If I was just going to bolt up the shifter, I'd go with the LX as it a better match to my working XT.
