Bikes: '88 Bianchi, '94ish Trek

Yes, I live in that area, and have actually ridden a decent route.
Take the Tammany Trace west from Fountainbleu up just past Abita Springs. Hang a right at the Abita brewery (not the pub, the actual factory). From there there are some decent back roads until you get to Hwy 1082 or 1083 (either one will serve) and then north to the Southern tier. Let me work on Google maps for a little bit and I can highlight the route if you'd like. Most of it is actually my commute when I can take my bike and I can confirm that the roads are decent and most of the car traffic is polite.

Actually, I'm at work at the moment. If you're interested I can get on my Google Earth account and send you the route from home later this evening.
