I'm hoping that old wives tale about small quakes relieving pressure on a fault so that it doesn't give a big jolt is true, at least as far as the Hayward fault goes.
Then again, if it did give an 8 or something that might take down all the bridges across the bay and give folks a chance to rethink the region's transportation future. The Loma Prieta did lead to the Capital Corridor Amtrak trains and the removal of the Embarcadero freeway, so apparently transportation officials can be taught.
