I've used both the glue type and the pre-glued. The glue type are far more reliable. I've had pre-glued fail very quickly, last long enough to get me home and do the job properly, still be there months later - it varies. It's also been a bit scary how easy they are to peel off sometimes when it comes to do the job with a glued patch.

We see the pre-glued handed out free as a promotion from time to time and they're worth grabbing then.

Use them as an emergency because there's not doubt they're a lot quicker than messing with glue and you're not going to find that little tube of glue dry (I had tube one go dry that I hadn't even opened, must've been an air leak in the seal). Be prepared to pull the tube and either replace or repatch (or at least inspect) when you get home.
