Things are pretty open-ended here (i.e. no one to really enforce things outside of peer-shaming ), but generally speaking, commuting is only the rides between home and work (or school), with any incidental trips along the way included. But that leaves out retired folks who do neither, but still do a regular ride to the post office or coffee shop every day to keep up the routine, so I'm sympathetic to that.

It would be cool if the Utility Cycling subforum also had a thread (exactly for the other rides you have in mind), but it doesn't seem like there has been enough interest.
