They were paying royalties to the inventor of the SuperLink in order to sell the Power
Link.
The patent is for a
reusable link.
Then they got the idea to do an end-run around the patent by modifying it to make it difficult to remove, and declaring it to be
non-reusable.
And the name was changed to Power
Lock.
