I use old unrepairable inner tubes for bar wrap. It's inexpensive you only need one. I like the spongy ,grippy feel. An added benefit, if you lean it against a wall or falls it won't ruin it like it would brand new bar wrap.
I use vulcanized glue instead of tape to keep it neat.
