You can destructively remove the old freehub if you don't have the tool. I've done it, which involves dismantling the freehub down to the core, and then the use of a bench vice.
I should be added in my previous post that the real constraint here is the availability of a replacement Hyperglide-compatible 7403 8-speed freehub, of which the last two remaining on the planet are somewhere in my garage.
