When I started riding with cleats it seemed everyone I talked to about it in person or online mentioned how slippery and difficult it was to walk in them and that you could barely get around. All the Speedplay people told me I'd fall down and could never walk anywhere in SPD-SL's. I trepidatiously got some SPD-SL cleats and braced myself for the calamities of daily falling down and breathlessly held on for dear life as I took one step from the garage towards my bike. I've never fallen. Not even close. My conclusion? Other people are inferior athlete's on their feet and that I'm a cleat walking God amongst mortals!

(Or, despite my smart alec remarks, walking in cleats is not near as difficult as the haters want you to believe.)
Careful! One "oops" and you could be sporting a busted tailbone for life. I did mine on a wet dock carrying sailing gear in both hands and wearing wetsuit booties. 30 years ago. Still busted. (The very good ortho I went to for the ongoing pain X-rayed, showed me the break and said he would be happy to fuse it but there was always risk of complications and the safer approach was to learn to live with it.)
