Accident happened to a cyclist? Then not a real VC, because a
VC hardliner would have done something else.

Right on.

When you get buzzed at high speed, hooked, cut off, nearly doored, ect, and you catch up to the driver and ask wtf, the usual excuse is "I'm sorry, I didn't see you." Duh. If most drivers didn't suffer from terminal cases of cerebral constipation, that wouldn't be a problem. Then there's the roadraging nutbars with murderous intent. Gasoline addiction causes brain damage...
John Forrester, the origional VC hardliner fred, played car and held his lane with a DWI headcase coming right up his ass. VC sure as hell didn't work then, did it? And we all know what happened to sydney....
I feel the loss, John and Sydney spread some good advice. (I've been lurking for a couple of years before I signed the membership papers.)
But the point here is that VC shouldn't be held to the absolute letter, cause you can't trust drivers to do the right thing and look out for interests other than their own. Instead, expect them to do something illegal and stupid - or even openly hostile - so it don't come as a nasty surprise.
As cyclists, we have vehicles that in terms of agility and ability, is superior to any car. We can take routes no car ever can. There's no such thing as 'the ultimate driving machine'. Use the strong points of your bike to maximum advantage, and live to ride another day.
