My trekking has MTB diameter. I use rapid-fire shifters and Shimano trekking v-brake levers.
If you attempt conversion, (1) make sure that the diameter will match your components; (2) if you swap handlebars keeping the same stem, it'll change your position by shortening the reach. You'll probably want to use a longer stem.
