+1. Studs make riding on ice so much fun. I actually look on purpose for ice.
Don't be afraid to spend on a good quality studded tire. Because it's not just the studs, there is also the rubber compounds that allow the tire to flex nicely in cold conditions, and the tread pattern for traction and shedding of the snow. I'm riding 38mm 45NRTH Gravdal tires that are 120 tpi, and I can often feel them conforming to the uneven packed snow and ice on my local streets. I
