My philosophy is to try almost anything if I have parts in my possession but not to only spend money for parts that are designed to work together. In your case, that would be a "I wouldn't do it."
FWIW, I'm done with bike computers that use a wheel magnet and sensor anyway. I've got a couple of entry level Garmins that I can swap from bike to bike with no programming necessary.
