I wouldn't. Fortunately the fellow who came in through the window when I lived in Santa Monica only came when I was out, which meant that my bike was out too. I had nothing more valuable.
I hate to carry keys, so I only carry those I need; when I'm out without my bicycle, I don't carry its lock's key, which means that I could leave on my bike the next day but have forgotten the key - grrrr!!! - locking it up guarantees that I remember the key.
