If a kmc x10 chain (somehow) brakes, and a link needs to be replaced, what is the best way to fix the chain ?
- Use a chain press and push pins out, leaving them in the outer plate, replace the link in between and push the pins back in
- Do the same but use replacement pins (Actually is there such thing for kmc x10 chains ?)
- Use a master link
As far as I know doing #1 or #2 would make a weak spot in the chain, since the pins lose the peening/ mushrooming/ whatever it’s called and are not secured in the plates anymore. Also the outer plate holes for the pin could also get a little bigger, right ?
Since the x10 comes with a master link, doing #3 will result in two master links in the chain, would this be a problem ?
