Bikes: guru flite, nishiki ariel

My orange/white pictured above is a 1988 model, according to my notes, and the catalog that came with the bike, which I kept for a long time but have probably tossed by now. It has a curved fork, a "made in Taiwan" sticker, and no Cunningham features. My serial # is vague, but the _Z8__72_ portions are clear. I purchased it new in June 1989 in Rockville, MD, probably on clearance. My main criteria was that it fit me (6'4") and could handle the potholes on my Rockville Pike commute.

Interestingly, I've almost lost it twice; once in the first week I bought it, ending a 400-mile tour of the Potomac river canal towpath at Washington DC's 4th of July fireworks, I left it, exhausted, at a subway station, with two broken spokes, after walking it 7 miles towards home searching for a safe-looking place. I came back the next morning and my lightweight camping lock had been cut, along with several others, but the bicycles were still there. The next year at college, my U-lock failed or was picked and the bike disappeared for a few hours, but thanks to the unique paint job I spotted it and chased the thief down.
