Check mountain bike meetup or MTBNJ. Both are fairly active. There are also several shops (DJs, Brielle Cyclery & co, Peddler, there are more...) that hold events/rides. On Tuesday nights in the Spring/Summer/Fall, JORBA hosts a beginner (sociable pace) ride at Allaire every [tues]day at...6:00? A large portion of that same group does trail maintenance once a month in the park, after which they ride, conditions permitting. It's a good way to meet new people/connect with other riders.
