It was this fear that made me buy the "Cool Tool" back in the day. A great little tool for C&V bikes, but a novel feature is the 14 & 15mm crank bolt socket that can tighten up that critical bolt (or nut). A rather hefty tool, but very useful....

Wow. That's quite the implement!
I felt it starting to get wonky, and initially thought it might have been a pedal bearing. I noticed clean metal on the spindle starting to show and quickly turned toward home hoping to make it (I just shortened up an already short 10 mile ride by a couple of miles). I actually made it to the outside of my neighborhood when it came off, so it was only about a 6 block walk to the house for a repair. Could have been much worse!!
