Hi all - I am overhauling my late 90's GT Tequesta for my son to use. It still has the original Exage crankset (similar to what is here:
Shimano Exage triple 170mm 26/36/46 crankset New) installed on it. The chain rings are pretty worn and I'd like to replace them because when I apply any kind of pressure when pedaling, the chain skips off the teeth. I guess this is a result of putting a new chain (a SRAM PC 830 eight speed chain) on worn chain rings.
I've never purchased chain rings/cranksets online so don't know exactly what to look for in terms of specifications, etc. So my question is - how to I make sure I get something that fits correctly? I'd be happy to replace the cranks as well as the rings at the same time, if the price was right.
Also - if anyone has recommendations, that'd be great. My son will mostly be using the bike to get back and forth to school and running around with his friends on the weekends, so a mid- to low-end crankset would be fine.
Thanks!
