The chain rings are pretty worn and I'd like to replace them because when I apply any kind of pressure when pedaling, the chain skips off the teeth. I guess this is a result of putting a new chain (a SRAM PC 830 eight speed chain) on worn chain rings.

I've never purchased chain rings/cranksets online so don't know exactly what to look for in terms of specifications, etc. So my question is - how to I make sure I get something that fits correctly? I'd be happy to replace the cranks as well as the rings at the same time, if the price was right.

Also - if anyone has recommendations, that'd be great. My son will mostly be using the bike to get back and forth to school and running around with his friends on the weekends, so a mid- to low-end crankset would be fine.

Thanks!
I was going to say it could be hard to find all of those chainrings in the 5-bolt pattern you need, and if you do, they would cost more than a new crankset...... but then I looked at your link.

If Boulder Bicycle still has those for sale, $49 is worth it just for the rings.
