Wow! What an incredibly informative thread! You folks have fully addressed any concerns I may have had regarding the Mavic 500RD hubs on my vintage Miyata. Although the hubs roll smooth as silk, I was concerned about a twitch @ the rim in the rear; but I have not been able to notice any degradation in ride or feel any vibration or "oddness" while applying the rear rim brake. My discovery of the "twitch" was last month, but I decided to let it go & just keep riding until it gets more pronounced.

I had contemplated a disc brake conversion for my more "modern" bike, but this thread helped bring me back to Earth....I dropped a super hot Gf long ago due to the maintenance level she incurred, LOL. Thanks to bikeforums.net, I've come to love my "just good looking/working enough" rim brakes even more.
