I didn't get anything backwards - ride quality isn't a good/bad thing. Some people would choose the "ride quality" of a stiffer carbon rim.

Generally, carbon rims aren't lighter than alloy rims if they are both low profile clinchers. Carbon rims are lighter when they have tall profiles or are tubulars. I ride on 383 gram alloy clincher rims.
