Even though I have an 88 Voyageur, I still look for one of those too.
...they used to show up all the time here on the local CL. The earliest ones (like this one) from 80/81 had kinda low budget components and wheels. The Altus shifters were, I think, Shimano's MTB group at the lower end, but the stuff works well. Plan on rebuilding the wheels and pay accordingly.

Mine was in very good condition, and little ridden. But the wheels were the aforementioned Araya rims, on Shimano Ultraglide hubs (for which you can no longer source cogs, except used on e-bay). And for whatever reason they used galvanized spokes....which is kinda unforgivable in 1980 unless you were really trying to cheap out to hit a price point.

Anyway, with the new wheels it rides about like your average sport tourer from the 80's. I went with the 27's because I wasn't certain the sidepull brakes would reach far enough to hit a 700c wheel, and I already had the fenders fitted with the original 27" wheels and those Panaracer 27 x 1 1/4 tyres.
