Shimano Ultegra FC-6800 vs. FSA SL-K Modular BB386EVO
Short story long, I need to replace the crankset and cassette on my 2007 Fuji Team Pro.
Original setup was an FSA Team Issue Carbon MegaExo crankset with 53/39 chainrings and an Ultegra 12/23 cassette. I spend 98% of my time on the large chainring, and trend towards 12, 13, and 14 on the rear (example: on my second-to-last ride before winter set in, my rear shift cable snapped and I rode a brutal but rather self-affirming 27 miles on the large chainring and small cog and still ended up with a 19.2 average for the 60 mile ride).
Looking at my replacement options, I'm leaning towards an Ultegra 11/25 cassette, and I have the option of either the Shimano Ultegra FC-6800 52/36 or FSA SL-K Modular BB386EVO 52/36 for roughly the same price (the Ultegra will set me back an additional $30). At least, I think that'll work. And give me a bit more range in both the high and low ends.
Does anyone have any experience with the FSA option? I'm not finding a lot of reviews. I like the idea of it being modular, but I'm wondering if that's going to end up being at all useful. And I don't care *at all* about the looks of the crankset.
Basically, I want to get out there and ride. Help?
