Thanks all. That sounds like a good idea hillrider. Since i already have a 12/30 ultegra cassette it would be a lot cheaper to buy a 24 or 26 granny ring. I just wasn't sure if the FD-5703 would shift from a smaller granny to the 39 middle ring. I will be using 10 speed dura ace bar end shifters 7900 that i have in my parts bin, so front shifting will be friction.
