The forum has had quite a few discussion threads recently regarding the building of or converting to three plateau chainsets.
Occurred to me that there is a resource for folks working with five-pin, 50.4mm, designs that is not very well known.
In 1977 Verot did a major reworking of the Stronglight range of chainsets. This is the time when models 104 and 105 launched and model 99 was revised. It was as well the occasion when model 93 was discontinued.
About a year and half later they created a new adaptor chainwheel for use with the 49D, or any 50.4mm BCD set. It permits one to mount model 99 chainwheels to the 49D. Model 99's BCD is 86mm and it goes down to a small of 28T. Sakae Ringyo (SR) also offer chainwheels of this BCD.
The part is designated nr. 490T and is available in dentitions of 48, 50 & 52. As a complete chainset it is named the 49 Tri.
Below are two catalogue illustrations followed by a photo of a set fitted to a cycle.
