At 6'4 I'm an expert at head impacts and I can honestly tell you that even a cap, hoodie, etc. can reduce some portion of impact not to mention cuts and scrapes from wayward branches. So even if its only 5% protection I'd rather have that than nothing. Especially true if you also have short hair or a buzz cut like me.
