Winfried, paying the extra over £1,000 is a bit of a grey area as technically speaking the Scheme restricts the amount to £1,000 - but apparently there are quite a few dealers that will let you do that, i.e. pay the difference.

Your employer has to be a member of the Scheme - best to read the rules, which are quite straightforward and available on the internet.
