BUT I *LOVED* the pedestrian lights in Taipei. Does just about everything right:

If there is a herd of scooters, I tend to take a different approach, stay way back and let them clear the intersection first, sometimes a rider goes down and it gets ugly.
Its always better to stay out of the herd if possible.
