Dunno, i don't wear one.
But my 6yo daughter does, and hers is a Raskullz Unicorn, which is based around a skate-type shell, and has very little ventilation. We've just had a bit of a heatwave (26oC but it's only early spring) and her hair got sweaty.
The polystyrene shell seems to be made of the same grade as adult ones, i can't press a dent in it with my thumb, i expect it's harder than her head. But if she fell off the back i'm sure it'd be better than nothing. And i like that it's brightly coloured.
