Restoring a 1955 Phillips Sports Light Roadster
She finally came in on Friday and I was truly impressed at the condition she was in. Much better than the pictures on line. Nuts and screw were rusted and yes quite a few scratches on the paint but overall in real nice condition. I assembled her. Flushed the rear hub with WD40 as I read on the forum and then added some Phils Wood oil. I did redo the front hub since you tube showed how easy it was. Fresh grease and bearings. Soaked some rusted parts in Evapo-rust. De-greased and washed and polished the frame and some steel parts. Replaced tires, lining and rim tape. I was floored to see original tires, tubes and liner on it. Took great effort to get those tires off! Only real damage on the bike is the rear rim seams to be flaking some chrome or plating. I will probably replace that rim eventually. I did replace the cracked handle bar grips with some cheap ones until I find a better replacement. I did the same with the pedals. Just put some cheap ones for now. I would love to put the originals but the blocks are half gone and i can seem to find any for replacement. Overall, I'm super happy with my project. I have yet to test ride her but hoping this weekend I can do that. Here are some pictures.
