Point of the OP is, progress is nuanced. Its laden with regression. Innovators of design that work for large bike brands don't have a crystal ball. All new designs are a work in progress. Big bike brands that introduce a new mouse trap perform their most enlightening beta testing on the people that buy their products. Pinarello struggled with PF30 for a few years like many other big brands including Specialized and went back to Italian threaded BSA. Trial and error is what progress is. Its the regression along the path of progress that is painful in terms of time and expense to those willing to take a leap of faith that a new design has merit or will be robust.
