OK, so I did a charity ride Saturday.
80 miles in and a fast group overtook. No problem, all part of the game but they surrounded me, started shouting that their friends had fallen back the rider who seemed to be leading invoked a "Slow roll!" in a loud voice.
Again, no problem. "Excuse me fellas. Can I get out?" and I'm on my way. Five minutes later they are passing. Again, no big deal and at this point I'd like to sit in so I move into the fourth position. The guy in front of me is pedaling three strokes, coasting, pedaling, coasting, over and over, surging. I'm five feet back and the guy is still surging so that I have to brake check. Super annoying.
I move out, drift back to a gap, sit in and try to relax except that the guy in front of me now is overlapping his wheel with the guy in front of him. He is scaring the crap out of himself, brake checking, swerving, etc. Plus all the brake checking because of the herky-jerky surge master guy up front. Not smooth riding at all, and at 22+ MPH.
I'm done, move out, accelerate and manage to stay off the front for most of the rest of the ride. They passed me one last time and a guy tries to go up the right between me and the curb! I gave him the Sagan elbow. The look on his face was priceless as he backed off.
Anyway, that's my charity ride story. My fault for getting mixed up with an unfamiliar group.
Thanks for listening.
