Funny tidbit from the Colorado ride. My friend and I both grew up in Texas. We were riding gravel/dirt roads and paths on 25mm tires. It was all super hard pack paths with tiny gravel. No problem at all. I talked about the gravel roads in North Texas and how much they would suck on these tires (did it once on the Domane for a metric century) and how great all these roads/paths were. He said that all the Colorado riders he knows look at the gravel bike craze and say "Just ride your damn road bike. What do you need a special gravel bike for?" It's all about perspective.
Speaking of which, I need to get some 35mm gravel kings before I sign up for another gravel ride here.
I'm looking forward to the annual night gravel ride in August where you can do a metric century in the cool of night. Especially with my dynamo lighting.
