Front canti brake cable hanger options for quill stem (Univega Via Carisma)

I Googled around for a couplafew hours before posting but couldn't quite pin down this one. I need to buy a replacement cable hanger stop for my front canti brake.

But I'm not sure whether the Tektro, Origin-8 and other brand cable hangers that mount around the stem and/or steerer tube will work with an older bike with quill stem. The manufacturer specs only refer to threadless stems. No idea whether the sizes are comparable, I've never owned a bike with threadless stems, and I don't have calipers (one of many tools I stupidly sold years ago when I thought I'd never ride bikes again).

That type would come closer to fitting my existing configuration for cable and housing.

Otherwise I could try this type that mounts on the fork crown. But I'd need to modify the cable and housing. Probably time to replace all the cables and housings anyway.

Background:
I'm planning to swap the stem and handlebar on my '92 Univega Via Carisma -- typical mountain bike-lite from that era. The original flat (very slightly arced) bar and 1-1/2" riser bar with some sweep that I've swapped around have the same problems -- my arthritic right wrist doesn't like the position for longer rides. My longest rides on this bike are usually 30-50 miles spread out over a long day of casual loafcycling, often with friends. Nothing too demanding. But that right wrist in particular has had some damage over the years between boxing, motorcycle and car wrecks.

Surprisingly to me, I don't have any wrist problems on the road bike with drops in a more aggressive position. Partly it's because I can change hand positions. But mostly it's because my forearms, wrists and hands are in a more ergonomically friendly alignment riding the hoods.

So I'm planning to try some albatross, North Roads or similar bars that will put my arms, wrists and hands in a better position. A friend did this on his hybrids (flipped albatross and NR bars) and really likes it.

But, the Univega has cantilever brakes and the front cable hanger stop is drilled into the original stem (typical MTB stem that angles upward). I'm planning to replace it with a road bike type stem. I'll need to add a cable hanger.

I'm not concerned about the shudder problem some folks report. Hasn't been an issue. Just the usual occasional squealing, fixed with toe-in adjustment.

Thanks.
