Look at the increase in smartphone use .... not saying for certain there is a correlation ....
Of course this will be denied by some... but how about the use of all sorts of distracting screens... from smart phones to "infotainment systems;" all at the forefront of distracting things for both pedestrians and motorists... with the inevitable outcome of more collisions and deaths.
