So I guess the answer to my question in the title is NO. There isn't any good reason to buy one over another, just a lot of silly ones. I'll stick with Campy on my Campy bike, and just pick a cheaper one for my commuter.

One thing I need to avoid is the big/big combo. That probably causes more wear than anything else while I ride. Now that I'm stronger I don't need to use it to get up any of the small hills I encounter, where it isn't worth the double shift. In fact, I never ride on the small chain rings here in NYC. One thing I need to consider too is a new big ring for the commuter. It is still the original 7sp even after I upgraded everything else to 10sp. I wonder if I can get a new ring that fits. Don't know the model off-hand so I'll have to check later.
