Also just took the cassette off and when turning the freehub by hand, feels really gunked up and doesn't spin freely at all. Seems like when the wheel is coming to a stop, the speed isn't high enough to take on the gunks resistance.

I think i'm going to try to get a hold of a 10mm allen wrench and swap out the hub body with another I have laying around and see what happens.
The bearings are maladjusted.....too tight. If you remove the wheel and turn the axle by hand it probably feels notchy.
Disassemble, Clean, re-lube with appropriate grease, re-assemble and re-adjust. Err on the side of a little loose, vs a little tight.
