Shimano has taken a lot of effort to sculpt their ft der cages to better shift or clear the chain WRT specific ring tooth counts. So if the triple has the same (or nearly so) tooth count differences between the middle and large rings as the double has between it's two rings then the triple der will work pretty well. If not it will work less well.Andy
