It is not all about the lumens, it also matters how the light is projected out. But yes, if you look at it from this perspective, more lumens, cheaper price, it makes the Flare R look bad compared to the CygoLite HotShot. The Flare R is visible from 2 KM away though and has an almost random flashing pattern, which is really the reason I bought it. That and I am admittedly a Bontrager fan, so I had no issues getting the Flare R. (Note: I am not saying the CygoLite HotShot is not visible from far away, just that the Flare R was tested and made to be visible from far away.)
