Just do that,.

I had the Topeak cage you mentioned, worked ok.
The only downside was that I would need to stop to drink.

Nowadays, I just use x2 750ml bidons.
If the bike lacks space, a saddle mount bottle bracket should work (I have one on one of my bikes)
