Floor, wall, bungee cords. Sometimes, when the bike rack is on my car, I hang them there and adjust the FD/RD.

I've gotten fairly good at the "active standing build" ergonomics. I actually prefer it for pedals, cranksets, bottom brackets.

I have one of those display stands that hold the rear NDS outer hub, and combine that with a bungee cord between the wheels to give me a stable and straight bar presentation when wrapping.

I also use carpet sample squares on the ground. They help eliminate concrete floor scratches, and often help to catch things that fall or get dropped.

Like gomango, I have problems with consistent grip, and drop small parts and tools a lot, and the parts almost always travel, often hitting my foot and then taking off to go under any vehicle, into any crevasse, or simply hide where no logic would support their location. I have started using a cheap drop vinyl drop cloth, 12x12, under my work area, which seems to at least confine the dropped items.

My Aldi Bikemate repair stand is still in the box. I'm sure I will get it out at my next place.
