It definitely is narrower, and 91 mm sounds about right. The new wheel I got is quick release and does seem to have a pair of lock nuts side-by-side on both sides of the axle (beside the wheel - not nuts that keep the wheel secured to the frame) on either side. I shall remove 1 from each side and see what happens.

Spoon robot - those safety tabs I didn't keep with the new wheel because it was already too tight.
