I cannot speak to Van Dessel but I can say steel rides like a dream and can last forever and ever. Plus steel won't generally fail like carbon can (not saying it will, it is a very strong well made material these days at least on the known quality brands). I highly recommend riding some steel frames. Certainly Reynolds 853 is good steel and if they did it with a threaded BB I would probably be all over it.
