Those goofy wheels will likely work but if you are riding a cheap bike that is poorly maintained but is kept that way for "security" I wouldn't want flashy wheels, plus you will have poorer braking with carbon and will need new pads. What is wrong with your current wheels, aside from being horribly filthy? If you are having bearing issues maybe clean your wheels and have your local shop take them apart and re-grease everything and tension the spokes properly and that will save you money on new wheels and refresh your ride.
